Designing a new way forward

CAREERWORKS

After many years of providing similar services under the umbrella of UBC Women’s Resource Centre and then UBC Life and Career Planning, a team of executive counsellors and consultants transitioned the organization to the private sector. Although the services they offered had not changed, the team needed to rebrand and operate under a new name—CareerWorks.

Combo created a responsive website that clearly identified the appropriate information path based on the user’s needs, and that explained the available counselling, coaching and assessment options. A comprehensive FAQ served to anticipate popular questions and “sticky” announcement copy applied to all pages notified users of upcoming workshops.

Working within CareerWorks’ blue-green colour palette, we designed a bright and open layout with a generous use of white space to underline the idea that a complex and potentially angst-ridden exercise—what should I do with my life?—could be simple and easy to navigate. We created a set of icons to help users understand the various offerings and deliberately kept primary copy short and to the point to encourage further exploration on secondary pages.

  • The CareerWorks website is a great starting point for that angsty question: What should I do with my life?
